Seas over night were glass calm, with thick fog! In the morning the sky looked quite ominous but by 9:00 had cleared and there was that sun and blue sky again!
We are in Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark with a population of about 300k. It is the largest deep water port in Denmark with the largest container operation in Scandanavia. We are berthed right in the industrial port area - there's a lot going on! Noticed some very modern new apartments on the way in.
Breakfast in the dining room today, then a short excursion took us on a bus tour all around the city. New construction everywhere, mostly apartments (like home)! The University seems to take up a lot of the land. First stop was Marselisborg Palace, the summer residence of the Monarch, Queen Margrethe II. She wasn't home so were allowed to poke around.
The excitement for the locals this week is that Arhus is the end of the 5th leg of "The Ocean Race". Ten identical sailing boats, each with a crew of 11, race around the world; it takes about six months to complete and they won't all make it. Quite an undertaking.
Also in town is the sailing ship Georg Stage, a three masted sailing ship used as a training vessel. You can earn credits toward your degree in Marine Engineering and Maritime Transport and Nautical Science. Sounds like the Sorlandset we saw yesterday.
OK, cruise is over. We have to pack our stuff by midnight tonight. We disembark in Copenhagen late tomorrow morning and, if all goes according to plan, Holland will take us and our luggage to the Palace Hotel. We fly home the next day.
